Alphadjo Cisse has made Italian football history with his hat-trick for AC Milan. The 19-year-old has broken a record that Nicolò Tresoldi had only just set on Tuesday.
Alphadjo Cisse secured a Europa League victory for AC Milan with a hat-trick against RB Salzburg, making history in the process. The striker scored three times on Matchday 2 of the group stage and, at 19 years and 358 days, became the youngest Italian player to score at least three goals in a single match in one of Europe’s major competitions.
In doing so, the Rossoneri’s young talent surpassed a record that had only just been set on Tuesday. Previously, the German-Italian Nicolò Tresoldi had taken the record with three goals for Club Brugge in the Champions League against Inter Milan.
Milan talent prioritises team success
Particularly noteworthy: the previous all-time record was held by Alessandro Del Piero, who had set it back in 1998 at the age of 23 years and 144 days during Juventus Turin’s match against Monaco. More than three decades later, the record was first broken by Tresoldi and, shortly afterwards, by Cisse.
After his historic evening, the Milan player, despite his personal accolade, was above all relieved at his team’s success: “Me, as a goalscorer for AC Milan? To be honest, that takes a back seat. The important thing was the win, and we got it; we’re satisfied.”
The youngster also highlighted the support network that had helped him settle in. His coach, Rúben Amorim, said after the match that Cisse had played better games in the past and meant his criticism seriously. When asked about this, the 19-year-old said: “What Amorim says about me can be an incentive.”
