Medical check passed: Philipp Öttl may ride in WSBK at Misano

Philipp Öttl may ride in the World Superbike Championship at Misano: After breaking his collarbone in Estoril and undergoing surgery, the German has been deemed fit

Philipp Öttl will be allowed to get back on his Ducati Panigale V4R for the World Superbike Championship practice opener at Misano. The German WSBK rookie received the green light from the doctors. Öttl passed the on-site medical examination and was thus cleared to start the weekend.

Three weeks ago, Öttl broke his right collarbone in a crash during the second free practice session at the World Superbike Championship in Estoril. An operation followed in Germany. However, Öttl is not completely fit. He still has pain in his shoulder.

Öttl knows the track on the Adriatic coast from a test in preparation. “I liked the Misano circuit very much during the test in winter. I was pretty fast then,” recalls the former Grand Prix rider.

“Now I have to wait and see how it goes with the shoulder. I hope I can do a lot of laps in FT1 to get my feeling back. Then we will see. If I don’t have too much pain, I’m sure I can get a good result,” commented the GoEleven Ducati rider.

“I need to find back the good feeling for the bike. I am optimistic about the weekend. I want to ride again because I had such a good feeling in Estoril and in Assen,” explained the German ahead of the weekend.

In addition to Philipp Öttl, Yamaha rider Garrett Gerloff and Supersport rider Patrick Hobelsberger also passed the medical examination and will be allowed to ride on Friday.
