Finally, some clear answers: Max Verstappen’s “no” to a break from Formula 1 leaves no room for speculation – will he soon be racing in other series at the same time?
Where world champion Max Verstappen will be driving in 2026 is currently a hot topic in the paddock, but one thing is certain: it will be in Formula 1. The four-time world champion has categorically ruled out taking a break from the premier class.
In addition to a possible move to Mercedes, some media outlets have reported that Verstappen could take a sabbatical year in order to see which team has done its homework best after the major rule changes in 2026.
But when asked about a possible sabbatical year, he gave a clear answer: “No.”
Follow-up question: “No?” Answer: “No.”
Of course, you can always read a lot into answers – and in Formula 1 in particular, you have to read between the lines. Now you might ask yourself what there is to interpret in a clear “no.”
But anyone familiar with Formula 1 and its quibbling over words could come to the conclusion that Verstappen is simply saying “no” to a sabbatical, but not ruling out racing in other series—such as a GT3 program—just not in Formula 1.
But unlike in his previous press conferences and interviews, this time he leaves no room for interpretation: “No, no, no,” says the Red Bull driver about taking time out from Formula 1, emphasizing that he will “definitely” continue driving in the premier class.
“Of course, I want to try to combine that with other racing series in the future, as far as possible and as I can prepare for it,” said Verstappen. “Because I do want to do something outside of Formula 1 – which I’m already doing with tests – but at some point I want to race as well.”
So definitely no break from Formula 1? “No, definitely not.”
All that remains to be clarified is which racing team the Dutchman will drive for next year. And until there is an official announcement, the rumors and interpretations will continue.
