Martinez misses Man United again after comeback – Lindelöf also injured

The injury problems at Manchester United continue. Immediately after recovering from a knee injury, the Red Devils will once again be without Lisandro Martinez, among others

In the turbulent 1-1 draw at Brentford, Lisandro Martinez replaced his stricken central defensive colleague Victor Lindelöf in the 69th minute after a two-month injury lay-off, to applause from the Man United supporters who had made the journey. As the Manchester club announced on Tuesday evening, coach Erik ten Hag will not only be without the Swede for “at least a month”, but also without the Argentinian for a second time.

While Lindelöf suffered a thigh injury in the away game on the previous matchday, Martinez received further bad news in training during the week. The 26-year-old central defender will not be available for the time being due to a calf strain – as has been the case for much of the current season

Defensive duo will also miss the FA Cup semi-final

After another operation on his right metatarsal, which Martinez had broken at the end of the previous season, the Argentine missed a total of 22 games for his club between September 2023 and January 2024. Just one month later, a knee injury finally slowed him down for a further two months.

Based on the Red Devils’ predicted downtime, Martinez and Lindelöf are likely to miss at least the next five Premier League games – including at Chelsea FC (Thursday, 9.15pm) and against Liverpool (Sunday, 4.30pm) – as well as the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City (April 27).
