Magdeburg give early lead to Zwickau by own goal late out of hand

Der FSV Zwickau lassen sich in Nachholspiel am Mittwochabend nach frühem Rückstand gegen den 1. FC Magdeburg nicht hängen und stegen sich. The late equaliser (own goal) for the home side was therefore justified.

Compared to the 2-2 draw in Würzburg, FSV coach Joe Enochs made four changes: Frick, Könnecke, Voigt and Gomez replaced Reinthaler, Coskun, Horn and König in the starting eleven.

For the visitors, Christian Titz replaced the yellow-red suspended Andreas Müller in defensive midfield with Malachowski after the 2:1 against VfL Osnabrück, while Tobias Müller came in for Bittrof in central defence.

The in-form Magdeburg (only one defeat and seven wins in the last eight games) already celebrated the autumn championship at the weekend, but were able to extend their lead over Braunschweig and second place in the catch-up match of matchday 16 against FSV Zwickau.

Schuler scores early for the lead

From the start, FCM dominated the game and had their first chance in the sixth minute when Schuler headed into the far corner. A little later, Atik (13th) and then Schuler (14th) failed to save from Brinkies. The Swans were highly motivated going into the eastern duel, but they were hardly dangerous. It was not until the end of the first half that Enochs’ team occasionally got in front of the visitors’ goal. However, the result remained unchanged until the break.

The home side, however, came out of the dressing room better and tried again and again from distance: Jansen (47th), Könnecke (50th) and again Jansen (57th) could not put the ball into the net. FCM, on the other hand, did not do much forward and continued to manage the narrow lead. That should have consequences.

FSV again late to win a point

With 20 minutes to go, Reimann made a last-second save (69th), but even the keeper was powerless to save a FSV free-kick in the closing minutes. Göbel lifted the ball in front of the second post, where Burger was the unlucky one and headed the ball into his own goal. The equaliser was deserved.

The 1-1 score held until the end, even though FCM tried in the last minutes. With one point, both teams bid a belated farewell to the first half of the season. However, the season continues this weekend. The Swans are guests of Dortmund II on Saturday. Magdeburg welcomes Waldhof Mannheim on Sunday for the top match.
