Lucas Auer extends contract with Mercedes-AMG: DTM future secured!

Lucas Auer and Mercedes-AMG have agreed to continue their partnership: What will happen in 2025 to the Austrian, who has been driving in the DTM since 2015?

Good news for Lucas Auer: the 30-year-old Austrian has extended his contract with Mercedes-AMG as a performance driver. The nephew of ex-Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger was missing from the provisional driver squad for the 2025 season announced at the end-of-season event on December 14.

Now they have agreed to continue working together, as Auer confirms. “I’m pleased that the collaboration is continuing, they have given me excellent support in my career,” said the Austrian, who is competing for the Winward team in the 24-hour race at Daytona.

“My program for the season is still being finalized, but the progress we are all making together means that maintaining that momentum will be the top priority,” says Auer.

However, Mercedes-AMG has not yet made any announcements about how it will continue in the traditional series in 2025. The only thing that is currently certain is that the Winward team, for which Auer has been competing since 2021, has a DTM contract with the manufacturer for the coming season.

In addition to the DTM, in which things did not go as planned in 2024, the Mercedes-AMG driver is also scheduled to compete in other GT series. Last year, Auer and his Winward teammate Maro Engel celebrated overall victories in the Sprint Cup and in the GT World Challenge Europe overall standings. Auer has also established himself as a top driver on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

The Kufstein native has been racing Mercedes-powered cars since 2013, when he competed in Formula 3. He then raced in the DTM in a Mercedes from 2015 to 2018, before trying to make the leap into Formula 1 as a Red Bull driver in the Japanese Super GT series in 2019.

In 2020, he returned to the DTM with BMW, and in 2021 he switched back to Mercedes-AMG, where he has found his sporting home ever since. Auer has notched up a total of nine DTM victories, making him one of the most successful active drivers in the long-standing series. In 2022, he was the runner-up.
