Luis Suarez founded a club in his home country of Uruguay in 2018. Now the striker can look forward to the help of his friend and long-time teammate Lionel Messi.
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are still active on the field, as both professionals are under contract with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. Following a disappointing MLS season (eliminated in the first round of the playoffs), they will soon be seen at the Club World Cup in the United States from June 14 to July 13.
In addition, the two well-known stars have long been testing the waters outside of active sports.
“I am proud and happy that you chose me.”
Suarez had already founded a club in his home country of Uruguay in 2018 – Deportivo LS, named after his full name, Luis Suarez. According to media reports, the club from the city of Ciudad de la Costa, which has a population of over 100,000, already has a large sports facility and around 3,000 members. The club is set to compete in the second amateur league next season.
But that’s not all. The club has also renamed itself Deportivo LSM. The “M” stands for Messi, because Argentina’s World Cup winner has now joined the club. The background to this is, of course, that Messi and Suarez know each other very well from their time together at FC Barcelona and also have a close friendship with their families.
“I am proud and happy that you have chosen me – and I will do everything in my power to continue building the club alongside you,” Messi said in a video posted on Instagram alongside his buddy Suarez.
