Laura Siegemund enters doubles final

She already won the Grand Slam tournament three years ago with her doubles partner. Now German Laura Siegemund is in the final of the US Open again

Tennis player Laura Siegemund has reached the doubles final at the US Open and needs just one more win for her second triumph in New York after 2020. The 35-year-old Swabian, alongside her Russian playing partner Vera Swonareva, beat the duo of Jennifer Brady from the USA and Luisa Stefani from Brazil in a commanding 6:4, 6:1 in 86 minutes on Friday. The final on Sunday will be against Gabriela Dabrowski from Canada and Erin Routliffe from New Zealand.

Siegemund and Swonarewa were quickly 4-0 up in their semi-final match, but lost three games in a row due to a weak phase. The duo caught themselves, with her strong play at the net Siegemund provided many points.

“We have prepared well “

“We prepared well and had a good strategy,” said the German. “We managed to make them not have their best day. I am very proud of us.”

The pair had already won the doubles title at the Grand Slam tournament in New York three years ago, then in Corona conditions without fans. “We love playing here in New York. We enjoy the atmosphere,” Swonareva said.

Siegemund had been narrowly eliminated in three sets in the opening singles competition against American crowd favourite Coco Gauff. Afterwards, she had complained about the behaviour of the audience, which had booed her at times.
