Lamine Yamal is only signed to FC Barcelona until 2026. However, the 17-year-old feels very much at home at the Catalans and has now hinted at a timely contract extension.
Because Lamine Yamal was only 16 years old at the time, FC Barcelona’s hands were tied until October 2023. Due to statutes, the Catalans were not able to bind the contract with the home-grown talent, who has been with the club since he was five years old, for longer than 2026. However, a year and a half before his contract ends, 17-year-old Yamal is likely to have put a smile on the faces of those around Barca.
Yamal wants to “stay as long as possible”
In an interview with CNN, the prodigy stated that he has no interest in leaving. In the summer, Paris St. Germain is said to have made an indecent proposal to sign the youngest player of the European Championships, but he sees his future clearly with the Blaugrana.
“Ultimately, Barca is the club of my life. I hope I can extend my contract and stay as long as possible,” said Yamal. ‘I want to play in the Spanish league. I want to play for Barca and yes, I will extend my contract. I will.’
While the club’s management team are currently concerned about the future together with Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, at least in this matter no new problems seem to be arising. Although Yamal does not know “when the contract will be signed”, he is sure: “It will be soon”.
For the 17-time national player, the sporting side of things continues to count. “In 2025, we will give everything to win trophies,” said Yamal. “Starting with the Supercopa – hopefully it will be the best year of our lives.” In the semi-final of the Supercopa, FCB will face Athletic Bilbao in Saudi Arabia this evening. In a possible final on Sunday (also 8 p.m.), they will face either Real Madrid, currently third in the table, or RCD Mallorca.
