Lamine Yamal becomes youngest goalscorer in La Liga history

Lamine Yamal continues to cause a sensation. The 16-year-old FC Barcelona attacker has now become the youngest goal scorer in La Liga history

For months now, Lamine Yamal has been the talk of the town, at least in Spain, and the teenager is rightly causing a stir due to his carefree style of play. Now the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Spanish national team has reached the next milestone.

At just 16 years and 87 days, Lamine Yamal is now the youngest goal scorer in La Liga history. The winger had an easy time of it in the 2-2 draw at Granada, only having to slot the ball in from close range a few minutes before the final whistle.

Predecessor Fabrice Olinga remains a unique selling point

The previous youngest goalscorer in La Liga history was a Malaga FC player: now-unattached striker Fabrice Olinga scored the 1-0 winner as a wild card at Celta Vigo shortly before the end at the age of 16 years and 98 days. The Cameroonian had also made his professional debut on the first matchday of the 2012/13 season.

Lamine Yamal was not entirely satisfied despite his record. “I would have preferred a win.” Barça, for whom the 16-year-old had not scored in either La Liga (debut at 15) or the Champions League until Sunday night, ran behind after just 17 seconds in Granada and were unable to turn it into a win.

Contract in Barcelona runs until 2026

The fans of the Blaugrana will certainly be happy, they will be able to admire Lamine Yamal for a few more years. The “only” second youngest player in the history of the Champions League after a Dortmund player recently extended his contract in Barcelona until at least 2026
