Lamborghini keeps Albert Costa as works driver

Albert Costa will continue to be Lamborghini works driver after the events at the Sachsenring – return to the ADAC GT Masters?

Breathing a sigh of relief for Albert Costa: The Spaniard, who was kicked out of the team at GRT Grasser after the starting crash at the 2021 ADAC GT Masters at the Sachsenring, will still be part of the Lamborghini works driver line-up in 2022. This means that a return to the German GT Championship is also within the realms of possibility.

Costa Balboa has been announced as one of seven factory drivers in the 2022 Lamborghini Squadra Corse. The other six are Giacomo Altoe, Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli, Marco Mapelli, Sandy Mitchell and Franck Perera.

No longer in the squad is Giovanni Venturini, who represented Lamborghini for eight years in the Italian GT Championship, GT Open and GT World Challenge (GTWC) America.

This could also open a door back into the ADAC GT Masters for Albert Costa. The Spaniard is known to be prone to impetuous actions like that starting accident, but he is one of the fastest Lamborghini drivers around.

What was quickly forgotten: before the starting collision he caused, he had put the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo in seventh place on the grid without having done a single lap the entire weekend before.

With Emil Frey Racing, a new Lamborghini team is ready to compete in the 2022 ADAC GT Masters. Costa has been part of the team that brought him to Lamborghini since 2016. He won the GT Open with Lorenz Frey-Hilti’s team in 2019.

Emil Frey Racing has not yet officially confirmed its drivers for the 2022 ADAC GT Masters.
