Kyrgios on fan disruption in final: ‘She’s drunk’

Pro tennis player Nick Kyrgios has said he was disturbed by what he perceived to be a drunken spectator during his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.

“I’m playing in the Wimbledon final against one of the best players in history. I don’t need someone talking rubbish to me every point,” said the 27-year-old. “I’ve been out a few nights in my life and I knew she had too much. I told the umpire, ‘She talks to me a lot and she’s drunk.’ What are you going to do about it?”

Kyrgios had already complained to umpire Renaud Lichtenstein during the match, accusing the spectator of having had “700 drinks”. The 27-year-old received a warning during the match. “I wouldn’t say she cost me the match,” Kyrgios said. At one point, he said, he thought, “Either give her a water or kick her out.” Kyrgios lost to Djokovic, now a seven-time Wimbledon winner, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in his first Grand Slam final.
