Kyrgios Gets Emotional After Return

Nick Kyrgios impresses in his latest comeback attempt. The former Wimbledon finalist gets emotional.

Tennis star Nick Kyrgios has finally celebrated a victory on the tour again after a long injury crisis.

In the first round of the ATP tournament in Stuttgart, the former Wimbledon finalist from Australia made a statement, defeating France’s world No. 36 Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-4 after a strong performance.

Kyrgios: “Means a lot to me”

“This is pretty emotional. I’ve had a lot of surgeries. Coming here, feeling the love, and playing tennis at a high level means a lot to me,” said grass-court specialist Kyrgios, who dominated the match and needed just 67 minutes to secure the victory.

“I’m happy with how I played and how my body feels. I had to work hard. But I’m still playing for moments like this,” Kyrgios continued.

In the round of 16, he now faces a match against Japanese qualifier Sho Shimabukuro.

Kyrgios aims to compete at Wimbledon

Kyrgios received a wild card for the tournament in Stuttgart and is also set to play in Halle and Mallorca. In 2022, he stormed all the way to the final at the grass-court classic in Wimbledon; this year, he aims to return there in competitive form.

In 2026, Kyrgios had played only one singles match in Brisbane so far, which he lost. Over the past three years, the extroverted Australian has played just seven matches on the ATP Tour, managing one victory. Injuries to various parts of his body have repeatedly forced Kyrgios to take breaks.
