Krejcikova ahead of Wimbledon final: I would never have dreamed of it

Laura Siegemund’s doubles partner is in the Wimbledon singles final. Barbora Krejcikova is particularly successful in doubles. The Czech has already had one major singles triumph

The Wimbledon final is the second Grand Slam final for Barbora Krejcikova: Since her victory at the French Open three years ago, she says she has changed her game. “I had to improve everything,” said the 28-year-old at the grass tournament in London: “I think I’ve definitely gotten better on faster surfaces. I feel like I’ve had to develop my game because everyone else is developing their game too.” In 2021, she triumphed on clay at Roland Garros in the final against Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Her success in doubles also meant that she now has the next chance to win a title at one of the four most important tennis tournaments, said Krejcikova. “I think it has definitely helped me to have so many successes in doubles and mixed over the years. It helps my singles a lot. “

Big collection of doubles titles

The Czech has already won three Grand Slam titles in mixed doubles and seven in doubles. She won Wimbledon in 2022 and 2018 alongside Katerina Siniakova. Krejcikova now plays together with Swabian Laura Siegemund. At Wimbledon, the two were eliminated in the quarter-finals the evening before Krejcikova’s successful singles semi-final.

The Czech defeated the 2022 Wimbledon winner, Yelena Rybakina, in the battle to reach the final. Siegemund had lost to the Kazakh in the second round of the singles, but put in a respectable performance.

In Saturday’s final, Krejcikova, the former world number two, will face Italian French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini. “I would never have dreamed that I would be in the singles final here,” said the Czech
