Tamara Korpatsch was eliminated in the second round of the WTA tournament in Cincinnati. The 31-year-old tennis player from Hamburg lost to world No. 16 Iva Jovic of the U.S. 4-6, 3-6.
In the first round of this warm-up event for the U.S. Open (August 30–September 13), Korpatsch—who had most recently won her home tournament in Hamburg—had managed a hard-fought three-set victory over Australia’s Maya Joint.
Korpatsch, the German No. 1, was the last German remaining in the $7.5 million 1000-level tournament in Ohio. Tatjana Maria was also eliminated in the second round, and Eva Lys lost her first-round match in Cincinnati.
