Knee operation: Pogba threatened with World Cup exit

The Winter World Cup starts in Qatar on 20 November. It will most likely take place without France’s Paul Pogba (29), who will have to go under the knife.

Pogba will have to undergo knee surgery. “Paul Pogba trained for the second time in the morning but then stopped and it has been decided that he will have to undergo surgery. Realistically we will have him back in January,” coach Massimiliano Allegri said on Monday ahead of the club’s departure for this Tuesday’s Champions League clash at Paris Saint-Germain.

After six years at Manchester United, Pogba moved back to the Old Lady in the summer. During pre-season, the 29-year-old suffered a meniscus injury on a trip to the USA. The midfielder has therefore not yet played a competitive match for Juventus after his return to Turin.

The World Cup in Qatar will take place from 20 November to 18 December. Defending champions France will face Australia, Denmark and Tunisia in Group D.
