The Germany manager is counting on his players having learnt from their experiences for the matches in November.

Following his extraordinary XXL squad, Germany manager Jürgen Klopp is planning to field a significantly smaller squad for the two international matches in November.

“We won’t be playing two different matches with two different teams,” said Klopp after the 0–0 draw in Thessaloniki against Greece, looking ahead to the matches in Serbia (13 November) and against the Netherlands three days later.

Klopp is relying on a broad pool of players

Klopp is banking on the learning curve his players have gone through. “When the players return soon, the DFB’s football ‘hard drive’ won’t be completely empty. We won’t be starting from scratch,” said the 59-year-old, who had originally named 44 players for the first four matches of his tenure: “We now have plenty of options in various positions. That’s how you can further develop a footballing philosophy.”

The national team manager has not yet finalised the squad for the final two matches of the Nations League group stage. “These players, plus the Under-21s, form a pool with which we’ll move forward. But the door is open to everyone. Wide open,” emphasised Klopp.
