Kimmich: “We’re not a top team”

Bayern lost 3-0 at Feyenoord Rotterdam on Wednesday evening, despite Munich having dominated play and had some good chances. The protagonists were suitably disappointed after the game.

“This has nothing to do with unfortunate events,” said Joshua Kimmich on DAZN after the defeat in Rotterdam. “We’re definitely leaving too much on the table. When I see how many big chances we have again, how much we invest for one chance, how much we let slip and how easy we are making it for the opponent to score goals at the moment,” the national player analyzed in clear terms. ”It was already starting to happen a bit against Wolfsburg, even against Hoffenheim. In the Champions League, you get punished for that. And then we don’t deserve to win despite the multitude of chances.”

“A bit more tenacious in defense and offense,” said Manuel Neuer, praising the Dutch team. His team, on the other hand, ‘maybe didn’t play our game to the end’ in the second half. ‘We crossed the ball very early on, making it too easy to defend,’ said the 38-year-old keeper.

“As the saying goes, the table doesn’t lie”

Kimmich was unsparing in his assessment of the fact that Bayern now have little chance of finishing in the top four and thus avoiding the play-offs before the knockout stage: “As the saying goes, the table doesn’t lie. We have to admit that we are not a top team at the moment. A top team shouldn’t lose a game like this. We still have a bit of a way to go.”

However, this assessment has nothing to do with the way the team plays under coach Vincent Kompany. ”We have completely internalized the way the coach wants to play football. Nevertheless, we make too many mistakes. It’s not that the opponent is playing us or is superior to us. We are being punished for it. It’s no use complaining, we have to stop making mistakes,” the 29-year-old demands.

Kimmich hopes for reaction like after Barca defeat

Kimmich does not want to paint a gloomy picture, but sees the Munich team after the renewed setback, especially in the premier class, where the record champions had already lost 0-1 at Aston Villa and 4-1 at FC Barcelona, and in this “in a process” and in this also “on a good path”. Above all, there is no mutual blame within the cabin. “It’s not like we’re looking left and right and blaming each other. That was different in the past in such phases. That’s not the case. The group sticks together.”

And so the midfielder is now hoping that the team will make amends for the clear 3-0 defeat at the hands of Rotterdam this weekend against SC Freiburg (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.) and even more so in the Champions League home game next Wednesday (9 p.m.) against Slovan Bratislava. “That gives me courage and I believe that we can show a strong reaction again – just as we did after the Barca defeat. We started a winning streak then.”
