The World Boxing Council (WBC) wants to arrange a fight against Alexander Usyk as soon as the world champion has voluntarily defended his title.
Germany’s boxing hopeful Agit Kabayel is likely to get a world championship opportunity soon. As the heavyweight’s team announced on Thursday, the World Boxing Council (WBC) will order a fight between world champion Alexander Usyk and the Bochum native as soon as the Ukrainian has completed a voluntary title defense. This is according to a letter from the WBC that has been received by Kabayel’s camp.
Kabayel has been WBC interim champion since defeating China’s Zhilei Zhang in February 2025, entitling him to a fight against Usyk. If Usyk, who also holds the WBA and IBF titles, fails to comply with the order, he will have to relinquish his WBC belt. Kabayel would then be declared world champion.
Kabayel most recently celebrated a knockout victory against Poland’s Damian Knyba in Oberhausen in January; it was his 27th win in 27 professional fights. According to Kabayel’s management, it is quite possible that the 33-year-old will step into the ring once more before the duel with Usyk in order to stay active.
