MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin appears very relaxed ahead of the pre-season test in Sepang, but can’t resist a little dig at Ducati.
MotoGP champion Jorge Martin continues his preparations for the first season with Aprilia at the upcoming pre-season test in Sepang. Martin already gained some experience with the RS-GP at the post-season test in Barcelona. There are new developments for Sepang. In addition, Martin’s bike will bear the world champion’s starting number for the first time.
“I don’t feel any pressure. I feel a sense of responsibility,” the title defender clarifies on the day before the test begins in Malaysia. ”Of course we want to achieve good results. My plan is to maintain the mindset of the past season.”
This means that Martin is not focusing on winning everything, but is concentrating on working to achieve his personal best. With this approach, he ultimately prevailed in the World Championship duel against fellow Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia, who celebrated significantly more victories but did not achieve the consistency of Martin.
“I didn’t focus on winning. Instead, I wanted to improve every day. It’s my obsession to be the best version of myself,” emphasizes the reigning MotoGP world champion.
He rejects the pressure to succeed in the 2025 MotoGP season, in which Martin will have the status of a factory rider for the first time: “Some people think we have to win. But we don’t have to win. We have to do our best. Then we’ll see how high our potential is.”
After four years with Pramac-Ducati, a new chapter is beginning in the MotoGP career of the 27-year-old Spaniard. “I feel a very pleasant atmosphere in the box,” Martin notes. ‘We’re not quite a family yet, as it was the case at Pramac. That’s also quite difficult, because I was with Pramac for four years,’ he says, looking back at the period from 2021 to 2024.
“I brought a few people with me from Pramac. I’m also taking on a few of Aleix’s people. The crew is slowly coming together. The interaction with the managers is also very familiar,” Martin reports and can’t resist a little dig at Ducati: ‘I have a very good relationship with the managers (from Aprilia), which wasn’t the case before.’
