Jorge Martin confirmed: As world champion, he would have been on the Ducati factory team in 2024

Jorge Martin reveals that as world champion he would have already ridden for the Ducati factory team at the Valencia test – He had everything prepared in the background

Jorge Martin would almost have switched from Pramac to the Ducati factory team and swapped places with Enea Bastianini. During the MotoGP season finale in Valencia, the Ducati management admitted that this possibility could exist

There is a clause in Martin’s contract that he would join the factory team if he wins the world title. However, it was not entirely clear in Valencia how likely this would actually be implemented. As Martin did not become world champion on Sunday, this issue was a moot point.

But now Martin has revealed that everything would have been ready for this change in the background if he had actually beaten Francesco Bagnaia in the World Championship final. Then he would have been the Italian’s team-mate at Tuesday’s test.

This week, a new documentary by DAZN Spain about Martin’s career was presented in Madrid. It is called “Martinator, voluntad de hierro” (Martinator, iron will) and will be shown on the streaming service in Spain.

Following the presentation, at which Martin was present, he finally revealed the detail from Valencia: “I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but on Sunday in Valencia I had two black leather suits with me in case I rode a different bike on Monday.”

“But well, it didn’t work out and I don’t care anymore. I was fighting to become world champion. I was very close to ‘Pecco’ and I did it with Pramac. I’m proud of them and proud to continue with them. “

“If I had changed, I would not have returned to my team. I think they deserve to fight for another world championship. If we can do it, then they would deserve it.”

Next year, another star rider, Marc Marquez, will join the Ducati line-up. The duel with his compatriot will be particularly important for Martin, as he sees himself as the Spanish MotoGP star of the next few years.

“It will be very interesting and a very good opportunity for me. I have the opportunity to ride against one of the best, or the best rider in history. If I manage to beat him, I will also consider myself one of the best riders in history,” Martin demonstrates with a broad chest.
