One of the greatest boxers of all time is fighting for another title.
Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is indeed returning to the ring at the age of 46. He has now confirmed an ESPN report from early May via Instagram. “I’m back,” Pacquiao wrote on social media: “Let’s make history!” On July 19, he will fight American Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao is considered one of the best boxers of his time, with world titles in eight different weight classes, but he ended his career in September 2021 after a points defeat to Cuban Yordenis Ugas. He is also politically active in his home country, where he unsuccessfully ran for president of the Philippines.
In his professional boxing career to date, Pacquiao has won 62 of his fights, including 39 knockouts, and lost eight times. His opponent Barrios, who is 16 years his junior, has a record of 29 wins and two losses with one draw, winning 18 times by knockout.
