It could happen quickly: Will Rose end up in the Premier League?

Just over a year after leaving RB Leipzig, Marco Rose could be drawn to the Premier League. AFC Bournemouth are apparently making a strong appeal.

On Tuesday, AFC Bournemouth had to break the unpleasant news to their fans that Andoni Iraola would not be renewing his contract and would be leaving the club in the summer. However, those responsible are not spending much time mourning the successful coach – a successor is already emerging: Marco Rose.

As reported by the Telegraph and the Guardian, the 49-year-old is the top candidate in the Premier League eleventh-placed club’s search for a coach. Talks are said to be “at an advanced stage” and an agreement could be reached this week. A second candidate, Kieran McKenna, is also being discussed. However, he is in the middle of the fight for promotion with second division side Ipswich Town, whom he has been in charge of since 2021, which makes negotiations more difficult.

Rose, on the other hand, is officially without a club from July 1. The ex-professional is still contractually bound to RB Leipzig until the end of June, who released him in March 2025 after two and a half long and successful years.

Bournemouth coped impressively with the upheaval in the summer

Bournemouth would make him the eighth German coach in Premier League history after Felix Magath (Fulham), Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool), Daniel Farke (Norwich, Leeds), Jan Siewert (Huddersfield), Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea), Ralf Rangnick (Manchester United) and Fabian Hürzeler (Brighton), with only Farke and Hürzeler currently working in England’s top flight.

Rose, whose only foreign coaching stint to date was at RB Salzburg (with the professionals from 2017 to 2019), was linked with Eintracht Frankfurt just a few weeks ago, but the club then opted for Albert Riera as Dino Toppmöller’s successor.

Although it sold almost its entire defense to wealthier rivals in the summer, Bournemouth is still in the tight race for the European Cup places six matchdays before the end of the season and is one of the positive surprises in England. They are currently just three points behind sixth-placed Chelsea FC. Under Iraola, the Cherries have finished eleventh and ninth so far. The 43-year-old Spaniard could move to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the summer.
