Is Forest blacklisting the Spurs with the league over Gibbs-White?

Tottenham Hotspur is intensively pursuing the signing of Morgan Gibbs-White. But this could spell trouble for the Spurs.

Premier League clubs are currently looking hard for reinforcements for their squads. Tottenham Hotspur is no exception, preparing for the Champions League despite finishing 17th in the league after their surprise Europa League victory. One player who is definitely capable of playing at this level is Morgan Gibbs-White.

The set-piece specialist has had an outstanding season with Nottingham Forest, with the 25-year-old directly involved in 17 goals (seven goals, ten assists) in 34 Premier League appearances. Now, however, the four-time England international is looking to take the famous next step.

Tottenham, who only finalized the €64 million transfer of Mohammed Kudus on Thursday, are willing to make it happen. The Spurs are prepared to pay the €70 million release clause in his contract, which runs until 2027. However, it is currently unclear whether the medical examination, which has apparently already been scheduled for Friday, will go ahead.

According to The Athletic, citing anonymous club sources, Gibbs-White’s parent club Nottingham Forest is currently considering reporting Spurs to the Premier League. The reason: unlawful approach to the player and concerns about how Tottenham obtained confidential contract details.

ManCity are also said to have been interested

In England, however, it is assumed that even a possible complaint would only delay the transfer by a few days. New Spurs coach Thomas Frank is an admirer of Gibbs-White and wants to strengthen his midfield with him. This summer, Manchester City were also rumored to be interested in the Englishman, but the Skyblues signed Lyon’s Rayan Cherki and Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders for their midfield instead.

Gibbs-White moved to Forest from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2022 for just under €30 million. He quickly established himself as a key player there and also made the leap into England’s senior national team. Now Nottingham can at least console themselves with the hefty transfer fee.
