Will Stephen Curry end his career with the Golden State Warriors? The Dubs’ GM, Mike Dunleavy, has no doubt about it.
Stephen Curry has been under contract with the Golden State Warriors since 2009, but for the first time, there are doubts as to whether the point guard actually wants to stay in the Bay Area. The 38-year-old will become a free agent next summer if he doesn’t sign a contract extension in the coming weeks. This would be possible starting August 29, and the Warriors can offer up to $136.7 million over two years.
“There are two things that make me confident about Steph,” GM Dunleavy explained during a media session. “He wants to keep winning every game, and he wants to finish his career with the Warriors. I don’t think that will change overnight on August 29, or before, during, or after the season.”
Curry recently stated that he wants to play for at least two more years, and Golden State is confident that he’ll remain in San Francisco. However, according to Anthony Slater (ESPN), should he consider a trade, the Warriors would at least carefully review such a request.
Warriors GM: It’s Curry’s Decision
“Ultimately, it’s his decision,” Dunleavy said. “If he comes to us with that request, [owner] Joe Lacob and I will go over it. We don’t want that to happen, but he deserves to make the decision. Right now, though, that’s not even on our minds.”
At the same time, however, not much has changed to the roster that finished 10th in the West last season. Curry himself was able to play only 43 games due to injuries, averaging 26.6 points and 4.7 assists in 30.9 minutes.
