Nico Hülkenberg finished eighth in the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, scoring points for the third time in the 2025 F1 season. He thanked Franco Colapinto
The Canadian Grand Prix went extremely well for Nico Hülkenberg. The German driver for Sauber finished eighth, scoring points for his team for the third time this season. This puts him in eleventh place in the overall standings with 20 points, just one point behind Isack Hadjar and two points behind Esteban Ocon.
Hülkenberg made up positions right at the start, but he denies that his experience played a role in this. He told ServusTV: “No, I can’t say that in this case, unfortunately. But Franco [Colapinto] did me a favor because he was pretty much tangled up with Alex [Albon] going into turns 8 and 9, and they both shot a little wide.”
“And I was able to pass them on the exit and, of course, kill two birds with one stone, which I think was important for us strategically in order to have a clear run,” explained the German. “From that moment on, I only had the top cars in front of me, which of course pulled away a bit. So it went well, I think the pace was respectable and decent.”
The process is gaining momentum
Hülkenberg then simply managed the race and took care of the tires so as not to overwork them. “The second stint was a long one, although of course many of those who started on the hard tires also drove as many or even more laps. Yes, that was good,” said Hülkenberg after the race in Montreal.
The collaboration with Sauber continues to bear fruit. Hülkenberg also explained to Sky what makes the team so successful: “Yes, it takes work. But I also think it’s simply a change of team – that process you need to go through, the first four, five, six months of settling in, getting used to this new tool and also just understanding it in its entirety and complexity.”
