Hertha’s Boyata suspended for three games

Hertha coach Pal Dardai will have to do without Dedryck Boyata for longer. The defender has been suspended for the next three Bundesliga games following his red card against Hoffenheim.

That was the decision of the DFB Sports Court after Boyata’s rude foul on Angelo Stiller in the 0:2 defeat at Hoffenheim. The 30-year-old had stepped on Stiller’s ankle with an open sole in the 74th minute of Friday’s match, the TSG midfielder was treated on the pitch and had to be substituted with a bruised foot and shin. Referee Sven Jablonski had initially shown yellow, but took back his original decision on the advice of the VAR and showed Boyata the red card.

It is already the seventh sending-off in the Berlin defender’s career, Boyata will thus miss his coach Dardai’s games against Bayer Leverkusen, the derby against 1. FC Union and FC Augsburg. Hertha can appeal the decision.
