Halfway through the season in Detroit: Schröder leaves his NBA future open

Basketball world champion Dennis Schröder is leaving his future in the NBA open shortly before the start of the transfer period.

Agency in Braunschweig. Schröder’s two-year contract expires this summer and he can negotiate a new contract as a so-called free agent.

“You can talk to the teams starting July 1. Then I think it will be announced very quickly,” Schröder told the German press.

According to media reports, several teams are interested in the 31-year-old German. In the NBA season just ended, Schröder and his Detroit Pistons were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs at the beginning of May. Since moving to the US in 2013, the Braunschweig native has played for nine different clubs.

Before the NBA starts again in the fall, however, the captain of the German national team wants to play a successful European Championship. “We want to win, that’s clear,” Schröder said of the goal. The team is confident ahead of the tournament, which begins for the Germans on August 27 in Tampere, Finland, against Montenegro. “We have a very cool team and have played very well in recent years,” Schröder said during a visit home to Lower Saxony.
