Güven: Title fight makes “no big difference” in the team

Joos Sportwagentechnik is a serious title contender in the ADAC GT Masters for the first time in the team’s history – Ayhancan Güven describes the mood

“Maybe we are a bit hungrier, but I don’t see a big difference.” – Ayhancan Güven does not feel a different mood in the team compared to the beginning of the season. But it will not be easy at the Sachsenring.

You almost forget that the Turk is still a rookie. Together with Christian Engelhart, he has worked his way up to become a title contender in the 2022 ADAC GT Masters and claimed his first victory in the German GT Championship at the Lausitzring.

surprised by this achievement, after all the Turk is considered a super talent and was not a Porsche Junior for two years for nothing. But for Joos Sportwagentechnik the situation is new. In the team’s third full season, they are now contenders for the title.

So has anything changed? “At the beginning of the year we were still trying to take it one step at a time. Now we have a bit more atmosphere in the team. We are hungrier and smell our chance,” says the 24-year-old. “But I don’t see a big difference to the beginning of the season. We give everything and pay attention to every detail.”

Detail work has to be done especially at the Sachsenring. The uphill and downhill track is not exactly regarded as a paradise circuit for the Porsche 911 GT3 R, even though SSR Performance took the first ever Porsche victory at the Sachsenring last year.

He nevertheless remains optimistic: “From the results so far and also from discussions with Christian, we know that the Sachsenring is not the strongest track for the Porsche. But we have good pace and looked good in the first free practice.” Then came the blow in the second practice session with last place, but that doesn’t have to mean much.

The approach still doesn’t change for the penultimate weekend: “Maximum attack. Especially in qualifying. In the race, maybe we can think a bit [about points], but if you start thinking too much, bad things happen to you. The main thing for us is to keep our title chances alive until the final race in Hockenheim. “
