The pre-order phase for GTA VI is now underway. Rockstar Games has released a wealth of information about what is arguably the biggest game release of our time. Editions, bonuses, story, game world, and technology: Here’s the complete overview.
Hardly any game has been as eagerly anticipated in recent years as GTA VI. After a long period of silence, Rockstar Games has now revealed numerous details about the upcoming open-world title. Since the night of June 25, fans have also been able to officially pre-order the game.
When is GTA VI coming out?
Rockstar Games is releasing GTA VI on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XS. Pre-order customers can download the game a week before release—the pre-load begins on November 12. This is to ensure that players can jump right in as soon as the game launches.
The pre-order period began at midnight on Thursday. GTA VI is available both digitally through the respective console stores and at retail stores. One notable detail concerns the physical version of the Standard Edition: While Rockstar continues to sell the game in physical form, the box will initially contain only a download code. According to a report by the PPE platform, discs are set to follow in December.
What editions and bonuses are available?
Two versions will be available at launch:
Standard Edition – 79.99 euros
Ultimate Edition – 99.99 euros
Owners of the Standard Edition can upgrade to the Ultimate Edition later. Rockstar has already confirmed that a corresponding upgrade will be available separately.
Regardless of the edition chosen, all buyers who purchase the game before November 20 will receive the so-called Vintage Vice City Pack. This pack includes a two-tone ’55 Vapid Stanier, the Shore Court Garage in Vice City, exclusive retro outfits for the main characters Jason and Lucia, and a special weapon design. Additionally, buyers of the digital version will receive one free month of GTA+.
What’s included in the Ultimate Edition?
The Ultimate Edition offers a wealth of exclusive content for the campaign—including premium vehicles, exclusive weapons, additional outfits, and new tattoos and hairstyles. It also includes special missions for Lucia and Jason, as well as their own garages and safehouses.
Furthermore, several businesses are reserved exclusively for Ultimate Edition buyers. These include the tuning shops Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie’s, the tattoo studio Electric Fang Tattoo, the streetwear shop Stock 305, and Sara’s Unisex Salon.
Special activities and missions will also be available exclusively to owners of the Ultimate Edition.
What is GTA VI about?
The story centers on Jason and Lucia. After a botched heist, the duo finds themselves caught up in a far-reaching criminal conspiracy that spans the entire state of Leonida.
Rockstar describes the plot as a modern crime story in which both characters are more dependent on each other than ever before. The developers also hint that the story might be structured in chapters. The creators recently announced that GTA VI is “intended as a single-player experience.”
The Game World: Back to Vice City
GTA VI is set in the fictional state of Leonida, which is heavily inspired by Florida. At the heart of the game world is the return of Vice City.
Rockstar describes it as the largest and most detailed open world in the series’ history.
Technical Details – How Big Will GTA VI Be?
There are no official figures on the installation size yet. However, industry observers currently estimate it will be between 200 and 300 gigabytes. This enormous amount of data is considered one of the reasons for the early pre-download.
Rockstar promises the most technically sophisticated game world in the company’s history. The trailers and screenshots released so far already show significantly higher levels of detail in lighting, physics, character models, and environments compared to GTA V.
Is GTA Online coming back?
Rockstar has not yet officially announced a standalone online component. However, there are many indications that a new version of GTA Online will follow. It remains unclear at this time whether it will be available at launch or will be released later.
The start of pre-orders officially kicks off the final countdown to the release. Rockstar is expected to release more information on gameplay, technology, and potential online content by November 19. One thing is already certain, though: GTA VI will be one of the biggest game launches in recent years.
