Gravenberch: Klopp has kept his promises better than Bayern

Ryan Gravenberch believes he has done everything right with his move from FC Bayern to Liverpool FC – and sets out a clear next goal

Of course, in a season in which even Bouna Sarr has been in a starting eleven for FC Bayern, Ryan Gravenberch would certainly also have gotten his playing time. Nevertheless, the midfielder is happy to have moved on to Liverpool FC in the summer after just one season in Munich. Because there he plays as regularly as he had hoped in vain in the Bundesliga.

When he spoke to Jürgen Klopp on the phone, he was given a clear plan: “They wanted to build me up slowly, but I would get my chances. That was the most important thing I wanted,” Gravenberch told Dutch TV station “Viaplay” ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Luton this Sunday.

And that’s how it turned out. Gravenberch, who had previously started mainly in the Europa League, even worked his way into Klopp’s starting line-up in the Premier League. He has already made a total of eleven competitive appearances (two goals, two assists), six of them from the start.

“I got the minutes I was expecting,” the 21-year-old registered with satisfaction and replied with a laugh to the question of whether Klopp had kept his promises better than those responsible at Bayern: “Actually, yes. “

Klopp: “He’s starting to believe in himself again “

And Klopp has also repeatedly raved about his new signing in recent weeks, who – like Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart – was originally only lured to Anfield because other transfers had fallen through. “I really like him as a boy and a player. It’s really nice to see him starting to believe in himself again,” said Klopp recently, hinting that Gravenberch had not left Bayern with the greatest confidence.

In any case, Gravenberch has adapted to the Premier League surprisingly quickly. “The intensity is higher there,” he says in comparison to the Bundesliga. “The Premier League is number one in the world. It’s different to where I come from.” He’s only been here a few weeks, “but I feel good. I’ve made a good start and I’m very happy about that.” His next goal? A Premier League goal, he says on the club website: “I need one!”
