Even without a goal, Harry Kane is on track for the Golden Shoe. Further down the rankings, Patrik Schick has made a big leap.
Three Bayern goals, but none from Harry Kane: That’s quite a rarity—even though the English striker didn’t come on until halftime in the 3-3 draw against Heidenheim. But Kane’s goalless outing doesn’t change the fact that he’s on course for the Golden Shoe as the top scorer in European soccer. With 33 goals, the Bayern pro tops the European Sports Media (ESM) rankings.
Even if Kane doesn’t score again this season, he’s likely to be very hard to catch. Erling Haaland, in second place, scored once in Monday night’s 3-3 draw against Everton, but still trails the Bayern striker by eight goals. It’s a lead that’s almost impossible to close—even though Haaland has four games left and Kane only two. Haaland, who had overtaken Kylian Mbappé the previous week, thus solidified his second-place position ahead of the Frenchman, who missed Real Madrid’s 2-0 win at Espanyol Barcelona due to injury.
Behind the three big names at the top, Brentford striker Igor Thiago moved into fourth place; the Brazilian overtook former Augsburg player Dion Beljo, who plays for Dinamo Zagreb, with his 22nd goal of the season in the 3-0 win over West Ham United. The highest-ranked German player, Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav, failed to score in the 3-3 draw at TSG Hoffenheim and thus slipped slightly in the rankings, but remains in the top 10.
Another Bundesliga striker, however, made a big leap forward: Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick scored a hat trick in the 4-1 win over his former club Leipzig and catapulted himself a whopping 20 spots up the rankings with his 14th, 15th, and 16th goals of the season. The Czech, who is now also the third-leading scorer in the current Bundesliga season, is now within striking distance of the top 10 in 13th place, a spot he shares with Lamine Yamal, among others. The FC Barcelona rising star has been sidelined for two weeks with a muscle injury and is currently unable to add to his goal tally.
