Despite the lower coefficient, a player from outside the top five leagues is at the top of the Golden Shoe rankings. With his goals 35 to 38, Viktor Gyökeres has replaced Mohamed Salah at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Harry Kane is coming under pressure from Italy.
The weekend could hardly have gone better for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian celebrated an early Premier League title with Liverpool FC thanks to a furious 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. The 32-year-old, who had previously failed to score in four games, contributed one goal himself, bringing his tally to 28 – and thus remaining six goals ahead of the second-best scorer in the English top flight, Alexander Isak (22).
But even though Salah himself was probably not too bothered by it amid all the championship celebrations on Sunday, he has lost his place at the top of the European scoring charts for the time being. Viktor Gyökeres added to his hat trick from the previous week with four goals in a 5-0 away win at Boavista. Although his 38 goals this season are only multiplied by a factor of 1.5 in the Golden Shoe rankings, the Swede has moved one point ahead of Salah (56 points with a factor of 2). With 57 points, Gyökeres is the new top scorer in Europe.
Retegui draws level with Kane
Meanwhile, the gap behind Gyökeres and Salah widened. Robert Lewandowski missed the league game against Mallorca with a muscle injury and was unable to add to his tally. This gave Harry Kane the chance to draw level with his 25th goal of the season and move up to third place, but the Englishman, who plays for FC Bayern, also failed to score and remains in fourth place. He has to share this spot this week with Mateo Retegui, who scored once against Lecce (1-1).
Patrik Schick (12th with 38 points) and Hugo Ekitiké climbed up from the Bundesliga. The latter drew level with Tim Kleindienst and Jonathan Burkardt, among others. The trio are in 24th place with 15 goals (30 points). Serhou Guirassy was also successful at the weekend, scoring his 17th goal of the season, but was unable to move up the rankings and remains in 19th place, now alongside Moise Kean. Ermedin Demirovic has 13 goals (26 points) and is listed in 47th place.
