Golden Shoe: Goal drought at the top of the ranking

Robert Lewandowski continues to lead the Golden Shoe ranking of Europe’s top scorers by a wide margin. This is also due to the fact that the continent’s top scorers this week were successful via penalties at best.

With 56 points, Robert Lewandowski is far ahead of the competition in the Golden Shoe. With 28 goals, last year’s winner has significantly more goals to his name than any other player in a top European league.

With Lewandowski’s rivals struggling to score last week, Ohi Omoijuanfo (27 goals, 40.5 points) is still second – a record that will not change for Molde in the Norwegian league, where the season is played in the calendar year and has been over for some time.

However, Omoijuanfo will not stay second for long, with notable players gathering behind him. Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick and Dusan Vlahovic (formerly Florence, now Juventus) already had 40 points (20 goals) to their name before this week, in which they came away empty-handed. Now, two more full-blooded goal scorers caught up: Ciro Immobile (Lazio Roma) and Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) each scored once from the penalty spot in their teams’ victories and are now also on 40 points.

Haaland, Modeste and Nkunku in top 20

In addition to Lewandowski and Schick, the Bundesliga is represented by three other players in the top 20 European goal scorers: Twelfth place is occupied by Dortmund’s Erling Haaland (32 points), who is currently injured. Cologne’s Anthony Modeste (30 points) shares 15th place with three other players, with RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku (28 points) right behind him.
