The Hamburg native secures the first medal for the German Judo Federation at the title fights in Budapest.
Mascha Ballhaus has won the first medal for the German Judo Federation (DJB) at the World Championships in Budapest. The 24-year-old from Hamburg won her bronze medal match in the 52 kg class against Kisomi Omori (Japan). The German judoka had already won World Championship bronze in Abu Dhabi last year.
Ballhaus celebrated her first victory in her third duel with Omori. She had previously lost in the semifinals to Japanese Tokyo Olympic champion Uta Abe, who was crowned world champion.
Her twin sister Seija, who became European champion in April, will be competing for a medal in a higher weight class (up to 57 kg) on Sunday.
The title fights in Hungary will end on Friday. The individual competitions will be held until Thursday, with the Olympic mixed competition taking place on the final day.
