German Grand Prix: Daniel Ricciardo to Take Grid Penalty

The British Grand Prix is almost here and there will be a lot of drivers with a point to prove, hoping they can improve their season with a good result at Silverstone. The Red Bull team have not enjoyed a great season by their standards and Daniel Ricciardo admitted that the world championship fight is going to be very difficult for him and Verstappen this season.

He also went on to say that: “Max and myself probably take too many points off each other. Lewis and Seb are doing all the winning there.” Clearly showing his concerns about the competitive levels and individual priorities between the team mates.

Will Ricciardo renew his contract with Red Bull?

Ricciardo has also been talking about his Red Bull contract renewal, which has not been agreed yet. There are a few aspects of the contract that he is looking to iron out, such as a financial package that matches Verstappen. He also has concerns regarding the switch to Honda engines. The Lewis Hamilton situation could also impact Ricciardo. Should Hamilton not renew with Mercedes then that could open the door for him to move over.

Other F1 news

The German GP takes place on 22 July, with Ricciardo likely to take a grid penalty as he has exceeded his quota of parts. As the German Grand Prix suits his driving less than other circuits, he has confirmed that this is likely to be the one he is taking the penalty in.

Last British Grand Prix in 2019?

Negotiations between Silverstone and F1 appear to be strained, with the British GP potentially being in jeopardy as a consequence. Chairman of the British Racing Drivers’ Club, John Grant advised: “As things stand, 2019 could be the last British GP at Silverstone – or indeed anywhere.”
