German Davis Cup team without Zverev to Brazil

Rio de Janeiro – The German men’s tennis team will once again have to do without Alexander Zverev for their Davis Cup first round match in Brazil.

The Olympic champion will not be available for the match in Rio de Janeiro on 4/5 March, the German Tennis Federation announced on Friday. “I am sad to miss the Davis Cup preliminary round in Brazil. Unfortunately, with two upcoming Masters tournaments on a different continent and surface, the venue and timing don’t fit into my tournament schedule,” Zverev said. The week after the Davis Cup match, the Masters 1000 event will take place in Indian Wells, after which the tennis stars will move on to Miami.

Team manager Michael Kohlmann nominated Jan-Lennard Struff, Oscar Otte, Daniel Altmaier and the two doubles specialists Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz for the encounter on clay in Brazil. For Otte and Altmaier it is the first nomination for the German team. “As a young, up-and-coming player, Daniel Altmaier has played his way into the team. It’s the same with Oscar Otte, who has shown consistently good performances over the last six months,” said Kohlmann, who will have to do without Dominik Koepfer due to an arm injury.
