German boxers once again without medals

At the first World Championships under the umbrella of the new World Boxing Association, the nine DBV athletes were eliminated in the quarterfinals at the latest.

The German boxers came away empty-handed in their quest for medals at the World Championships in Liverpool. Leonie Müller, the last hope of the German Boxing Association (DBV), failed to reach the medal rounds at the first title fights under the umbrella of the new World Boxing Association. The DBV had already failed to win a medal at the three previous World Championships, which were still organized by the IBA.

Three women and six men competed for the association in Great Britain. Light middleweight Müller (up to 70 kg) lost on points to Uzbekistan’s Asisa Sokirowa in the quarterfinals; another victory would have secured her at least a bronze medal. Müller was also the only member of the team to advance to the quarterfinals. Olympic competitor Maxi Klötzer (up to 51 kg), Nikita Putilov (over 90 kg), and Yasse Cisse (up to 90 kg) also advanced to the round of 16 with a victory, while the remaining five German boxers failed to get past the first hurdle. The last German World Championship medalist remains Abass Baraou, who won bronze in Hamburg in 2017. The World Championships in Liverpool will continue without German participation until Sunday. World Boxing will be responsible for the boxing competitions at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. Prior to the senior world championships, the new federation had already hosted an U19 world championship last year.

Before the current title fights in Liverpool, mandatory tests to verify the biological sex of the athletes caused a stir.
Because the results of the required gender tests using genetic material were not available in time, the French women’s team was excluded before the start of the World Championships.
