Gerd Müller is to get a monument in front of the Allianz Arena

Goal scoring legend Gerd Müller is to be honoured with a monument in front of the FC Bayern Munich arena at the initiative of the Kurt Landauer Foundation.
On a pedestal directly on the esplanade shortly before the entrance to the stadium, Gerd Müller is to shine in bronze 1.5 times his size – and of course in his incomparable jubilant pose with which he always celebrated his goals,” the Kurt Landauer Foundation wrote on Thursday, thanking Müller’s family and FC Bayern for their support.

A cost estimate is around 150,000 euros. The foundation expects the project to take one and a half years and called for donations for the project.

The foundation has commissioned the artist Karel Fron, who has already erected a monument to Landauer at the Bayern club grounds on Säbener Straße, to work on the statue.

Müller had died on 15 August at the age of 75. The “nation’s bomber” set the still unrivalled record of an incredible 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games. A life-size statue of him is also to be erected in his native town of Nördlingen. In addition to Bayern, the DFB, the town and TSV 1861 Nördlingen are participating in the project.
