Galatasaray part ways with Terim

Fatih Terim is no longer the coach of Galatasaray Istanbul. The Turkish first division club made the announcement on Monday.

The Turkish club announced in a club statement that they had agreed to part ways and thanked Terim for his services. The coach had achieved countless successes for the country and the club, and they would continue to benefit from his ideas and experience for a long time to come.

For the 68-year-old Terim, who also coached the Turkish national team three times (1993 to 1996, 2005 to 2009, 2013 to 2017), it is the end of his fourth stint at Galatasaray, which he first coached in the late 1990s and most recently since 2017. He celebrated countless successes with the “Lions of the Bosporus”, leading the club to the Turkish championship eight times and winning several cups. This season, however, things have been anything but smooth, with Galatasaray currently only 12th in the table.

Turkish media have suggested that Roger Schmidt, who currently coaches PSV Eindhoven, is one of the candidates to succeed him.
