Formula E Seoul 2022: Will the season finale fall through?

Weather threatens the Formula E season finale in Seoul: After flooding in recent days, heavy rain is forecast for the weekend

The eagerly awaited 2022 Formula E World Championship season finale in Seoul this weekend is in danger of literally falling through. Heavy rain is forecast for the South Korean capital on Saturday and Sunday

Some weather models are predicting more than 20 litres of rain per square metre within three hours. With such heavy rain, a race would be almost unthinkable, especially since Formula E does not have special rain tyres.

However, there are still slight uncertainties in the calculations of the various weather models. On Saturday, for example, some see the focus of the rainfall in the early evening local time, so that the first race of the double-header (start at 9:00 CEST) can possibly still take place in drivable conditions.

On Sunday, most weather models are forecasting heavy rain already at race time in the afternoon local time, and thunderstorms are also possible.

Earlier this week, South Korea was hit by the heaviest rainfall in decades. On Monday and Tuesday, parts of Seoul were flooded. At least nine people drowned or died in landslides.

If one of the two scheduled races cannot take place, Stoffel Vandoorne would be the world champion. The Mercedes driver enters the season finale with a lead of 36 points over Mitch Evans (Jaguar). A maximum of 29 points are up for grabs per race day for a win, pole position and fastest race lap.
