Cassidy bids farewell to the Jaguar team with a dominant one-two victory. Porsche benefits from a retirement and is crowned double world champion
Nick Cassidy made an impressive farewell to Jaguar with a dominant one-two victory at the Formula E season finale in London. The New Zealander also won the final race of the season on Sunday, securing second place in the drivers’ standings. At the same time, Porsche was crowned world champion in both the team and manufacturers’ standings.
Cassidy delivered a flawless performance in the 16th race of the season. He controlled the action from start to finish and crossed the line 13.5 seconds ahead of Nyck de Vries (Mahindra) – the second-biggest winning margin in Formula E history.
For Cassidy, it was his third win in a row and his fifth in six races, fitting for his final outing for Jaguar and the departure of team principal James Barclay.
De Vries finished second for the second time in a row, helping Mahindra to its best team result since the 2017/18 season: fourth place in the overall standings. Sebastien Buemi (Envision) showed a strong comeback from 19th on the grid to finish third.
Jake Dennis (Andretti) finished fourth, followed by Mitch Evans (Jaguar), who received a five-second time penalty for driving too fast under full-course yellow and dropped from second to fifth place as a result.
In the battle for the team and manufacturer world championships, Nissan needed both cars to finish in the top five to catch Porsche. Oliver Rowland tried to turn the tide, but crashed out on lap 16 after contact with Nico Müller (Andretti). Both had to retire from the race, clearing the way for Porsche to take the double title. Jaguar thus moved up to second place in both standings ahead of Nissan.
Maximilian Günther (DS-Penske) and Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche) finished seventh and eighth. Lucas di Grassi ensured a conciliatory end to the season for Abt-Lola with ninth place. The same was true for David Beckmann (Cupra-Kiro), who scored his first World Championship point in tenth place in the final race of the season.
