Formula E 2024: Robin Frijns moves from Abt-Cupra back to Envision

Back to the future for Robin Frijns: after a season with Abt-Cupra, the Dutchman is docking back with the Envision team for Formula E 2024

Second confirmed driver change in two days for 2024 Formula E World Championship Following Monday’s announcement that runner-up Nick Cassidy is moving from Envision to Jaguar, Envision now announced the signing of Robin Frijns on Tuesday. For the Dutchman, it is a return to his previous employer after a season with Abt-Cupra.

Frijns has competed for Envision for four Formula E seasons prior to his move to Abt-Cupra (2018/19 to 2022), in three of which (2018/19 to 2021) the team operated as Envision Virgin Racing. In the 2024 season, Frijns will form the Envision driver pairing together with Sebastien Buemi. Buemi has been driving for the team since the past 2023 season and will stay for a second season.

“I’m very excited to be back at Envision Racing after a year elsewhere. It feels like a homecoming,” says Frijns, who is convinced: “It will be great to join a team that is competing for the title. Envision Racing has been fighting at the front pretty much every season and I can’t wait to get going.”

In a total of seven seasons in Formula E, Frijns has taken two race wins so far. Both came in the service of the Envision racing team, namely in Paris and New York in the 2018/19 season.

It was Frijns’ best season. He finished it in fourth place in the overall standings. For the 2024 season, he is aiming for more. “We have a great car and the goal is to be competitive. We will definitely be able to do that. I’m competing to win the title,” proclaimed the Dutchman.

Now that Envision has also filled its two cockpits for 2024, one day after Jaguar, six of 22 cockpits have been allocated for the second season of Formula E’s Gen3 era.

In addition to Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy at Jaguar and Sebastien Buemi and Robin Frijns at Envision, world champion Jake Dennis at Andretti and also Edoardo Mortara at Venturi have a valid contract for the new season. All other cars in the field are currently not officially confirmed with a driver name.
