Formula E 2023: Porsche’s Gen3 car tested for the first time

Pascal Wehrlein completes shakedown of the new generation of cars for the Formula E World Championship at Porsche in Weissach and draws positive conclusion

Porsche took a big step into the future of Formula E on Wednesday. At the manufacturer’s development site in Weissach, Pascal Wehrlein completed the first laps in Porsche’s Gen3 car for the 2023 Formula E season.

“It was a very interesting day and a great experience to drive our Gen3 car for the first time,” says Wehrlein and reports: “It feels great and I’m looking forward to testing it with full power soon. In any case, the first impressions were already very good and whet my appetite for more.”

With the visually and technically new generation of cars, Formula E will start a new era after the end of the current season in 2022. The Gen3 cars are the fastest, lightest and most powerful electric racing cars ever built. And they are also the most efficient yet.

Developed specifically for the city circuits on the Formula E racing calendar, the Gen3 cars take a step forward in terms of sustainability. In future, for example, more than 40 per cent of the energy consumed in the race will be generated via regenerative braking. And the recycled carbon fibre used to build the body comes in part from the Gen2 cars used in the current 2022 season.
