The current weather forecast for the seventh race weekend of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola
There are crucial questions on every Formula 1 2024 race weekend: What is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Do we need intermediates or even rain tires? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tires will suffice? In short, what do the drivers around Nico Hülkenberg, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?
In order to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the start of the tests or race weekends. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days of each weekend.
The result is the most accurate weather forecast possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2024 Formula 1 season. However, all information is subject to change, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there without warning.
Formula 1 next takes to the track in Imola from May 17 to 19 for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the seventh race of the year.
The current weather forecast for the race weekend in Imola:
For the start of the European season, Formula 1 in Italy is expecting an early summer weekend with plenty of sunshine. However, showers and thunderstorms are possible on Sunday. The forecast in detail.
Friday (May 17) starts sunny and this will not change throughout the day. At most, there will be a few harmless clouds. The temperature will rise to 23 degrees in the afternoon.
The wind will be strong on Friday with gusts of up to 60 km/h from the south to southwest. On bends 9 (Piratella) and 11 and 12 (Aque Minerali), the tailwind is therefore noticeable, which can lead to unstable handling of the cars.
Saturday (May 18) will also be almost cloudless all day. With a high of 24 degrees Celsius, it will be slightly warmer than on Friday. The wind will shift to an easterly direction during the course of the day and, with an average of 15 km/h and gusts of up to 35 km/h, will be noticeably lower than the previous day.
Sunday (May 19) will begin sunny again. However, showers may develop during the course of the day and brief thunderstorms are also possible. As these are localized, it is not possible to say in advance whether they will hit the route or not. Overall, the probability of precipitation is currently 44 percent.
With highs around 25 degrees, it will be summery warm again. The wind will blow from different directions and will continue to decrease with average speeds of around 10 km/h and gusts of up to 20 km/h. Should showers or thunderstorms move across the route, stronger gusts are also possible
