Formula 1 to be held in Las Vegas from 2023: Grand Prix on Saturday?

The TV channel ‘Sky’ reports that everything is possibly in the bag for the third US Grand Prix of Formula 1, already from 2023 in Las Vegas

Formula 1 will return to the US gamblers’ paradise of Las Vegas in 2023. Rumours of this have been circulating in industry circles for a long time; now the pay-TV broadcaster ‘Sky’ has announced this as virtually certain in an article and reported that an official announcement could be imminent (possibly as early as today).

The special thing about it is that the race is to take place, Sky commentator Sascha Roos suspects, “on a Saturday evening so that you have a lot of viewers in North America”. And not on just any Saturday evening, but on Thanksgiving, that is, on 23 November.

“Relatively late,” says Roos, the race will start. In other words, at prime time in the USA – and at Formula 1 breakfast on Sunday morning in Europe, if the information should prove to be true.

According to Roos, the first details of the track layout have already leaked out: “There won’t be any fast, long curves. The city doesn’t even allow for that. It’s more like 90-degree bends, as you know from one or two city races, for example in the IndyCar series.”

The idea is to run the track along the legendary Las Vegas Strip, the famous skyline with flashing neon lights on the hotels and casinos in the background.

The last time Formula 1 raced in Las Vegas was in 1981 and 1982, in the car park of the legendary Caesars Palace. Winners back then: Alan Jones (Williams) and Michele Alboreto (Tyrrell).

By the way, Formula 1 expert Marc Surer has “bad memories” of that, “It was probably the most unworthy Formula 1 track I have ever experienced. I can only hope that the current track will be much better and more attractive, because the spectators didn’t come either. We raced there with practically no spectators. “
