Formula 1 2024: Williams confirms Logan Sargeant for a second season

Williams will continue with Logan Sargeant as Alexander Albon’s team-mate in the 2024 Formula 1 season: This completes the grid for the new racing year

The field of participants for the 2024 Formula 1 season is already complete on December 1, 2023. As the last team where one of the two race cockpits for the new season was still vacant, Williams announced on Friday that Logan Sargeant’s contract will be extended

Sargeant therefore has the opportunity to put the experience of his rookie season to good use in a second season at Williams. The American, who will turn 23 in a few weeks’ time, will once again drive alongside Alexander Albon in 2024, who has long been confirmed as a member of the team. Albon had already signed a multi-year contract with Williams in the summer of 2022.

While the 2024 Formula 1 season will be Albon’s third at Williams, it will be Sargeant’s second. “I’m very excited to continue driving for Williams Racing in the 2024 season,” says the US boy and continues: “It’s been an incredible journey with this team so far and I’m grateful for the opportunity to develop as a driver within such a talented and dedicated group.”

In his rookie season in 2023, Sargeant finished in the points once, in one of his three home races on the calendar. He finished tenth in the US Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin in October. However, the whole thing happened retrospectively. Sargeant had “only” finished twelfth on the track. He finished in the points thanks to the disqualifications of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).

For the 2024 season, Sargeant is aiming to score his first world championship points under his own steam. “We have exciting plans for the future and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success next year,” he says on the occasion of his contract extension. Williams will continue as a Mercedes customer team in 2024.

Williams Team Principal James Vowles commented on Sargeant’s decision to remain with the team: “I am delighted that we can continue our journey with Logan in the 2024 season. Logan has shown immense ability under the pressure of world publicity. This makes him a perfect addition to our team. We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that we can achieve even greater success together in the coming season.”

Williams finished the 2023 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship in seventh place in the standings with a total of 28 points. This puts them ahead of the AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo and Haas teams
