Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been arrested in Los Angeles by ICE immigration officials and is to be deported from the US in an expedited procedure. This was announced by the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday.
The agency said the former world champion and son of legendary Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez was wanted in Mexico on charges of involvement in organized crime and trafficking in firearms, ammunition, and explosives.
Chavez allegedly belongs to a cartel
Chavez is also suspected of belonging to the Sinaloa cartel and of providing false information in his application for permanent residence in the US.
On June 27, authorities determined that he was in the country illegally, according to a statement. According to ICE (United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement), Chavez poses a “clear threat to public safety.”
Chavez, a former WBC middleweight champion, lost a one-sided fight against boxing YouTuber Jake Paul last Saturday in Anaheim, California.
