Former Becker protégé Rune has a new coach

Tennis pro Holger Rune has a new coach around two weeks after Boris Becker retired. In future, the 20-year-old Dane will once again be accompanied by his former French coach Patrick Mouratoglou (53). Rune announced this on X (formerly Twitter)

“Wishing you every success in the upcoming tournaments and for the rest of the season!” commented three-time Wimbledon winner Becker on X.

Around two weeks ago, 56-year-old Becker announced the end of his coaching engagement for world number seven Rune after less than six months, citing scheduling problems as the reason: “Due to professional and personal reasons, I can’t give Holger what he needs at the moment.” Roger Federer’s long-time Swiss coach Severin Lüthi, from whom Rune had parted ways after his disappointing performance at the Australian Open in January, was also part of the coaching team.

Becker was not at Rune’s side in Melbourne, instead reporting from Germany as a TV pundit for Eurosport. At the US Open last September, Becker was unable to report on site for the internet channel Sportdeutschland.TV due to visa problems. Prior to that, he had also commentated from afar for Sky Italia at his favorite tournament in Wimbledon.
