Forced break for tennis ace Medvedev

Monte Carlo – Daniil Medvedev will not be fighting for a return to the top of the tennis world rankings for the time being. The 26-year-old Russian, currently ranked second behind Novak Djokovic, will have to take a break for several weeks.

On social media, Medvedev announced that he had been playing with a minor hernia for the past few months. He said that he and his team had now decided to resolve the problem by performing an appropriate minor surgery. “I will probably be out for the next month or two,” Medvedev wrote. He said he would work hard to return as soon as possible.

Medvedev was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami. He thus missed the hoped-for return to the top of the world rankings. Medvedev had replaced Djokovic as the leader only a few weeks ago. However, his early exit in Indian Wells meant that he immediately had to relinquish the top position, even though Djokovic was not allowed to compete in the two major hard-court tournaments in the USA due to his lack of a Corona vaccination.
